To help you further your knowledge on SEO, I am first going to teach you some SEO Jargon that you need to know in order to gain a good understanding of Search Engine Optimization.

 

SEO Jargon

 

Crawler (Also known as a Bot or a Spider)

A Crawler is a program that follows link from one website to another in order to discover new content.
Once new content is found, a new blog post for example, the crawler will then index it allowing it to appear in search engines such as Google.

 

External Links

External links are also known as backlinks.
These are hyperlinks on another other websites that link back to your website.
Once new content is found, a new blog post for example, the crawler will then index it allowing it to appear in search engines such as Google.

 

Internal Links

Internal links are also referred to as backlinks.
These are hyperlinks from one page on your website to another page on your website.

 

Page Rank (PR)

It is a score from 0 – 10 that Google assigns to a website based on it’s relative importance.
The higher the PageRank the more important it is to Google
Note: In March 2006, Google removed PageRank from the public.

 

Page Authority (PA)

Page Authority is a score out of a 100 and it was developed by MOZ to predict how well a specific page will rank in search engines.

 

Domain Authority (DA)

Domain Authority is also a score out of a 100 that was developed by MOZ that predicts how well an entire website will rank in search engines.
